Patricia Arquette gives her all for John Boorman's political thriller, going through hell and high water as an American doctor on holiday in Burma who's forced to go on the run from the military junta. Despite the painfully hard work of both Arquette and Boorman, it remains stubbornly unexciting and unrevealing, and is one of the director's least distinguished efforts. Nevertheless, it's in the interesting category and an essential one for insomniacs and film buff completists. And the moral of the film is useful - don't lose your passport. Boorman came back strongly with The General.
