This ultra-smart film version of John Guare's brilliant stage play is propelled by miraculous performances by Donald Sutherland and Stockard Channing as a wealthy Manhattan couple whose empty lives are turned upside down by the arrival of Paul, a young man (Will Smith) who claims to be the son of (real-life) film star Sidney Poitier. Social satire isn't everyone's cup of tea, and the movie wasn't exactly in the Men in Black category at the box-office. But this is a feast for everyone with an appreciation of fine acting and intelligent writing. A fantastic cast also includes Heather Graham in an early role and Sir Ian McKellen as an improbable South African.
