If you've read the bestselling book or seen the big-screen movie starring Susan Sarandon, then you will be disappointed with this made-for-TV version of the story designed as a feature-length pilot for a weekly series. JoBeth Williams is given the unfair task of filling Sarandon's shoes as the attorney with plenty of personal problems who takes on a difficult murder case which involves a child witness. Williams acquits herself with honour as do the rest of the cast, battling against a ho-hum script and the fact that the tale had been told (if little more persuasively) only a year previously.
