The title here is heavily ironic, since the Brooklyn housing project where this telefilm is set is far from 'radiant'. In fact, everyone who lives there just wants to get out. Set in the early Fifties, this movie is reminiscent of Beat Street (1984) in that its use of period music lightens the tone tremendously. Central to all the urban disaffection is Gloria Goodman (brilliantly realised by Kirstie Alley, an actress with the deftest of comic touches), who aspires to better things for her feckless family. She even takes on a job as a cosmetics counter girl in a department store in order to find the money that will help her move on and up in the world. Her struggle and the daily routine of life in 'the city' are the thrusts of this very watchable little film. Big Clancy Brown gives her selfless support.
