The excellent, though often overlooked Ving Rhames gives a nimble, punchy performance as controversial fight promoter Don King, who overcame a Sixties jail term for manslaughter to find fame in the Seventies as the manager of heavyweight champions Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Mike Tyson. Based on a warts-and-all book by Jack Newfield, this Rocky-style TV movie is a fascinating story, thumpingly well told. If the script has a few problems sorting out the wheat from the chaff, Rhames always keeps the show in the ring and off the ropes.
