The actor first came to attention as college student Zach Siler in the romantic comedy She's All That with Rachael Leigh Cook.

However, he's escaped the rom-com tag after landing the part of Fred in the live action Scooby Doo series.

Prinze Jr uses the name of his father - the Latino star of the 1970s sitcom Chico and the Man - after he committed suicide when his son was just 10 months old.

Raised in suburban New Mexico, after graduating from high school he settled in Los Angeles to study acting.

He got his first acting break with a four line role in an episode of Family Matters and made his big screen as Claire Danes' boyfriend in To Gillian On Her 37th Birthday.

He followed with a role in the sharp indie The House of Yes, and his first entry into the teen thriller genre, playing Ray Bronson in the successful I Know What You Did Last Summer.

In 1998, he reprised his role in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and played a bad boy in the indie, Sparkler.

After She's All That, his appearances included the romantic comedy Down To You with Julia Stiles and in a similar vein Boys and Girls with Claire Forlani.

The slush roles kept on coming with Head Over Heels and Summer Catch until Raja Gosnell cast him as Fred in the live action Scooby Doo series.

Recently, he switched direction to star in the thriller Poolhall Prophets with Ving Rhames and Vinnie Jones.
