Winick, whose breakthrough was the well-received Tadpole with Sigourney Weaver, specialises in shooting movies on digital video.
His New York-based company InDigEnt took its inspiration from the Danish collective Dogma 85 and maverick film-maker John Cassavetes.
Movies under the company's banner include Ethan Hawke's Chelsea Walls, Bruce Wagner's Women in Film, Richard Linklater's Tape and Rebecca Miller's Personal Velocity.
Winick's debut feature was the 1989 horror film Curfew which he followed with Out of the Rain with Bridget Fonda and Michael O'Keefe.
Sweet Nothing starred Mira Sorvino and Michael Imperioli and The Tic Code was a drama starring Polly Draper and Gregory Hines.
Upcoming projects include the romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 with Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo.
