Demi Moore's much-vaunted unveiling session turns out to be a cross between film noir and the Keystone Kops. The film starts like a thriller, with two dead bodies and a whiff of blackmail. But, since its plot isn't worth a plugged nickel, it soon disintegrates into comic capers of the crassest kind. Moore at least gives it a go and keeps a straight face. The rest of the cast just strenuously overacts, notably Burt Reynolds as the girl-chasing senator at the centre of the affair. Finally, though, the movie's downfall is its own refusal to take itself seriously. The decision to play for laughs clashes uncomfortably with Demi's relationship with her small daughter (her real-life child Rumer Willis) and proves never less than irritating.
