Ed Harris and Amy Madigan star in this rather good TV remake of the Zane Grey Western tale of a lonesome drifter who comes to the aid of a widow trying to hold on to her ranch. Although the story has been filmed four times before, the last version was made in 1941, so perhaps a retelling is about due. Okay, the story is now rather clichéd, although, as Grey wrote the novel in 1912, he probably thought of it first! Former Hill Street Blues star Charles Haid is in the director's chair, and he does a pretty good job, giving the film plenty of atmosphere. Harris makes a convincing cowboy as the slightly mysterious Lassiter and Madigan is a feisty heroine. Solid Western entertainment.
