Quirky comedy isn't exactly grunge director Paul Schrader's forte, to judge by this amiable, anodyne and not too inspiring story of a faith healer (Skeet Ulrich) whose honesty and laid-back attitude disarm efforts to explot him for gain. So low-key as to lack any kind of drive, the film could have been a witty feast, but in its present state is more likely to send you to sleep. Bridget Fonda, though, still manages to give a good performance as the record promoter sent in to sound out Ulrich's veracity and inevitably falling in love with him.
