Emotive made-for-TV drama about the plight of a troubled Cambodian refugee and the New England town of Windsor, Vermont, which rallied to his cause and raised enough money to ship his beleaguered parents over to the US. Based on actual events, it is taken from Bruce Harmon's Emmy-winning work Talking a Stand. Brenda Fricker plays volunteer worker Vinnie Moore, who eventually finds a family who will take in the tormented 11-year-old Sirik. When the couple (Blair Brown and Kevin Coleman) discover the boy's parents are still alive, they mount a money-raising campaign to bring them to America. A moving and inspiring piece which eschews schmaltz to bring home its message.
