Metroland

Christian Bale is plausible and persuasive in this nice if occasionally dull little film about youthful dreams and settling for 'normality' in suburbia. And there are also personable turns by Elsa Zylberstein, as the French girl he falls for in 1968 Paris, and Emily Watson, as the girl for whom he ditches Elsa and moves back to marriage and life in Metroland - a mix of towns at the end of the Metropolitan Line.
