One-liner chuckles come consistently in this amiable canter for Billy Crystal and Robin Williams as lawyer and failed writer respectively, both suckered by an old flame (Nastassja Kinski) into hunting for her missing teenage son on the grounds that one of them might be his real father. Crystal's a smart cookie, on his third marriage, whose skill in head-butting comes in handy in the quest, but Williams has the sharper moments as the would-be suicide who 'teaches English as a third language at the Jewish community centre'. Also on the trail is Kinski's husband (Bruce Greenwood) who gets trapped in a crashed portaloo in a ditch... but no, you don't want to know about that one. Crystal and Williams team cheerily enough in this underrated comedy. 'You know Lou Gehrig,' says Crystal .' The baseball player. He died of Lou Gehrig's disease.' Williams's eyes widen. 'Gee,' he gasps. 'What are the odds on that? ' (DQ)
