Trainee Godmother Murray (Short) is whisked into the life of eight-year-old Anabel (Mara Wilson) who wants her dad to get the lead role in a Boadway musical.

But Short's character is totally inept and much crazy misfortune occurs on the way to granting the girl's wish.

A rather carelessly thrown-in sub-plot involves evil godmother Kathleen Turner and her assistant Amanda Plummer, who plot to steal some magic wands from a convention.

Reasonable entertainment, if perhaps confusing for smaller children.
