Ryan Phillippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar kick up a storm as near-incestuous siblings who plot the downfall of others in this sharp and enjoyable teen campus version of Dangerous Liaisons.

Selma Blair is fun as one of their victims and Reese Witherspoon steals all her scenes as the virgin who makes Phillippe see the light of true love.

It's great to see the stars relishing their unusual casting. Phillippe married Witherspoon the year the film was made. Swoosie Kurtz appears both in this and Dangerous Liaisons. The script was written in only 12 days.

There have been many attempts to bring literary classics to a wider, younger audience. Cruel Intentions is one of only a few that succeeds. A clever re-scripting and some inspired casting is what makes this film. All the leads pull off spot on performances and the supporting cast never falter. There are some fantastically memorable scences (I will restrain myself and NOT mention the award winning kiss) and the dialogue is witty and snappy, even if it is at times a bit lewd. A whole bunch of fun.
