The story of Nick Leeson, the Singapore trader whose wildcat dealings broke Barings Bank, proves a shade dull in the telling. Much like the tale of the gambler who can't stop trying to recoup his losses, the yarn lacks variation - one call to and from the bank is much like another - and the acting by Ewan McGregor as Leeson and Anna Friel as his wife is adequate but unexceptional. McGregor, admittedly, is not well cast: the part needs someone able to look slippery, such as Jonny Lee Miller or Jude Law. The frenzy of the Singapore trading room floor is competently captured, but even this kind of thing has been done more excitingly elsewhere. The results are probably more of interest to those who work in the business than anyone else.
