Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

Mike Myers returns as the frilly-cuffed, snaggle-toothed superspy. He heads back in time to the 1960s where the fiendish Dr Evil (also played by Myers) has stolen Austin's mojo from his cyrogenic self. Heather Graham plays the wonderfully monikered Felicity Shagwell while Myers turns up in yet another guise as the repulsively gross 40-stone Scottish agent Fat B*****d.

Oh baby! Here's another lowbrow romp with diminutive, frilly-cuffed, ever-grinning idiot agent Austin (Mike Myers), returning via a time machine to the Sixties, where the fiendish Dr Evil (also Myers) has stolen Austin's mojo from his cryogenic self (go figure).

Painfully jolly stuff, the romp is one long, unvarying catalogue of sexual and bodily function jokes with many a nod and wink from the ubiquitous Myers, who also plays Fat Bastard, a disgusting 40-stone Scottish agent (Myers's Scottish accent is better than his English one).

Subtlety hardly gets a look in, save perhaps in the character of an 'indestructible' Turkish assassin who falls into a chasm, insists on trying to stand on bone-crunching broken legs (cue soundtrack effect) and even reappears after the credits.

This kind of comedy is still mighty popular and, while you might gag at the gags, its gross-out factor was only exceeded by its grosses.

The best spy based comedy series has to be the Austin Powers trilogy: absolutely smashing stuff, made only better by the unbelievably subtle cameo appearance by one Will Ferrell. Smashing Baby!
