The creators of the immensely popular thirtysomething have come up with an intriguing and insightful family drama. The story centres on the death of a 15-year-old boy's mother (Blair Brown). The boy, David (Morgan Weisser) is a home video enthusiast and, after her death, he becomes obsessed with watching over and over again videotapes he had made of his family's life over several years. The videotape sequences are cleverly intercut with the current lives of David's family and friends and some disturbing truths reveal themselves... If you can accept that this is a painful journey, you will find the story engrossing, while the acting by Weisser, Brown, and Craig T Nelson as the grief-stricken father, is of a very high order. The whole is further enhanced by careful camerawork and editing.
