A lip-smacking, luscious and lovely looking Anglo-French posh movie with a sleek star performance from Sophie Marceau as a 1838 Swiss woman, who agrees to bear a child for an English landowner (Stephen Dillane) and is eventually unwittingly taken on as the child's governess.
The photography and acting are far superior to the slightly struggling, occasionally obvious script and faltering direction of William Nicholson, but it's still richly enjoyable for all that.
