The High and the Mighty

John Wayne takes the tension in his stride as a pilot whose commercial airliner suffers engine trouble over the Pacific Ocean. Described as 'Grand Hotel in the sky', William Wellman's airborne soap opera boasts an Oscar-winning score and an impressive passenger list including Robert Stack, taking things slightly more seriously than he would years later in Airplane!.
