Alan Arkin misses election to Cooperstown's Baseball Hall of Fame, but his former buddy Graham Greene (not the novelist! ) is invited aboard. Small trouble in little Cooperstown, you might think, but the grotesquely neglected Arkin performs little miracles with the well-honed material, Greene is spot on and several fine character actors (including Hope Lange, Ed Begley Jr, Paul Dooley, Ann Wedgeworth and the film's director Charles Haid) give them loyal support above the call of duty.
