The actress made her big screen debut in the period drama Princess Caraboo with Jim Broadbent in 1994.
Career highlights include Tim Roth's brutal The War Zone, Gillies Mackinnon's gruelling Pure and Simon Pegg's ex-love interest in Shaun of the Dead.
Early TV roles include Soldier Soldier and The Man while Ashfield alternated between small and big screen appearances such as Guest House Paradiso.
In 2000 she starred in Christie Malry's Own Double Entry which she followed the next year with the comedy Late Night Shopping.
Subsequent roles included the black comedy The Last Minute and the romantic drama Beyond Borders with Angelina Jolie.
She starred opposite Matthew Rhys in the crime caper and alongside Simon Pegg in the zombie flick Shaun of the Dead.
