This inferior made-for-cable disaster movie jumps on the 'let's trash New York ' bandwagon (see Godzilla and Independence Day) by moving one of California's most feared nightmares ­ the earthquake ­ to the towering metropolis of the Big Apple. Det John Rykker (Greg Evigan) and his wife Laura (Cynthia Gibb) move from California to NY to begin a new life with two of their children after their youngest son is killed in an earthquake. But when an enormous 'quake destroys the city the Rykker family are once again separated in the ensuing chaos. This may offer another cynical look at the levelling of a densely populated city, but it's not a patch on the vastly superior Earthquake.
