Here's a credible, persuasive, top-quality, made-for-cable movie, inspired by the true story of Greg Yance (well played by Omar Epps), a small-time drugs dealer who accepts a court deal to attend a military training boot camp rather than go to jail for five years - only to find he's picked the hard option. Actor Charles S Dutton, later seen in Mimic and Get On the Bus, makes a striking directorial debut in a riveting movie for those who like such films as An Officer and a Gentleman, and the gritty but inspirational-style script finds fresh ground to tread in the admittedly old material. Epps shows every ounce of his character's effort to survive on his expressive face.
