Oh, what a beautiful show!
Aussie star Hugh Jackman is a charming, sexy Curly, in love with hard-to-get Laurey (Josefina Gabrielle, also delightful). And Maureen Lipman does a terrific character turn as feisty Aunt Eller.
As well as the leads, much praise should also go to Shuler Hensley's magnificently sung Judd and to Jimmy Johnston's irrepressible, lasso-twirling Will Parker.
Stage shows are notoriously difficult to transfer to film but - after a slightly uneasy introduction - the moment that Curly bursts onto the screen with Oh! What a Beautiful Morning!, any doubts are swept away.
