There are a few good laughs here and there in this mockumentary about a gay Scottish hairdresser trying to break into the upper echelons of Hollywood hair society. Comedian Craig Ferguson bears a striking resemblance to the young Sean Connery, who coincidentally figures (though not in person) quite prominently in the narrative that follows, when Craig mistakes an invitation to the Platinum Scissors competition for an entree to take part. If the mid-section sags, the hairdressing contest at the end is full of fun - an account of the Scissors passing from hand to hand down the decades is especially amusing - and the engaging Ferguson is well-matched by David Rasche as Stig, his principal adversary. Rasche plays the treacherous Norwegian crimper dead straight and gets more laughs for so doing.
