A lonely nine-year-old boy befriends a giant alien robot in this charming animated fable, based on a tale by British poet Ted Hughes. But this is Fifties New England, the era of Cold War paranoia, and the youngster has to protect his new friend from a suspicious federal agent and the US Army. Successfully combining traditional 2D animation with computer-generated imagery, The Iron Giant is a warm-hearted and exciting children's film with a strong moral message. With Friends' Jennifer Aniston among the voice cast and a director (Brad Bird) who's a veteran of The Simpsons, the film also boasts a good measure of wit.

The film is near beautiful in its production, so complexely created, yet simple. A tale of the Iron Giant - wonderfully voiced by Vin Diesel - and Hogarth, who seeks nothing but to play with his very own robot but soon finds himself teaching the giant all about the world and life around them. I dare you not to cry at the end of this movie, moreso at the giants last words. If there's a list of the top 10 animated movies (CGI excluded) it would be unjust to see The Iron Giant excluded.

Not only did I find this hilarious (as did the kids watching it with me) but it also had a moral - there is hope in everyone and everything.
