Despite renewed interest in the 1970s and the topic - behind the scenes at Studio 54, New York's most notorious nightclub of the day - this film actually manages to make sex, drugs and disco look dull. The uninvolving fictional tale is about a naïve 19-year-old (Ryan Phillippe). He becomes a bare-chested hustler at the exclusive Manhattan club, where he tries to give a boost to his friends, a singer (Salma Hayek) and a busboy (Breckin Meyer) with hopes of becoming a barman. The most interesting character - flamboyant Studio 54 owner Steve Rubell - is relegated to the background, although he's excellently played by Mike Myers. On the whole, disappointing.
