More urban misery, this time British style - a sort of This Unhappy Breed, which could more profitably have been called Streets of London. The grainy, hand-held-camera action focuses on a family at war. Older sister Debbie (Shirley Henderson) is a hard-cursing hairdresser who hates ex-husband Dan (Ian Hart) and has an 11-year-old son. Middle sister Nadia (Gina McKee) drifts through casual sex encounters via lonely hearts ads. Youngest sister Molly (Molly Parker) is expecting a baby by a partner who's quit his job and is considering leaving her. Mother (Kika Markham) never smiles, not even when poisoning the neighbours' dog and certainly not for workless husband Bill (Jack Shepherd). 'I never liked him,' she says of an acquaintance. 'You never liked anyone,' Shepherd retorts. Markham, Shepherd and Henderson all do good work, but this is grim stuff all the way and an upbeat-ish ending doesn't help much.
