A sensitive, intense and charming early outing for writer-director M Night Shyamalan, the wizard behind Signs, The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable. The affecting story grips and entrances, keeping you glued to the screen to discover the outcome, which hopefully may surprise most viewers. Like in The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan gets a kid (Joseph Cross) to give an outstanding performance as a 10-year-old Philadelphia Catholic boy who seeks a sign from God after the death from cancer of his grandfather (Robert Loggia). The super cast also includes Denis Leary, Dana Delany and Julia Stiles as the lad's dad, mum and sis, plus Rosie O'Donnell as one of his nun teachers.
