Based on Jon Krakauer's bestseller Into Thin Air: An Account of the Mount Everest Disaster and filmed in Austria, this TV movie is a convincing, gruelling recreation of the tragic events on Krakauer's Mount Everest climb in May 1996. The realistic handling gets under the skin of both man and mountain and the scenery is, as you'd expect, stunning. Mountain movies are notoriously difficult to make - and usually unsuccessful - so this project must be considered a success.
