The real mystery isn't why the dinosaurs died out. It's why it's taken Disney so long to realise their dino-mite potential. But better late than never. And, with Dinosaur, which cost a supersaurus-size £140million, the most expensive animation ever, the Mouse House really delivers. Blending the talking-dino cuteness of The Land Before Time with the cutting-edge computer realism of the BBC's Walking With Dinosaurs, the film follows the epic exodus of a mixed bunch of plant-eaters and early mammals as they flee meteor mayhem, and strike out, Moses-style, for a new promised land. But they're a meal on the move for some T-riffic T-Rex types. Grown-ups will goggle at the eye-boggling effects. Kids will alternately cheer and cower behind the seats in front. And they'll be pestering for the tie-in soft toys even before the end credits roll. Be warned, though. Dinosaur is a PG, and some scenes may not be suitable for smaller children.
