Kerry Fox, the flame-haired star from Down Under, has the central role in this family drama - a big hit in its native Tasmania, where the author/director Richard Flanagan is a local celebrity. Twenty years after she left her father because he'd beaten her up, Sonja (Fox) visits him and discovers that he's sunk to the level of a miserable alcoholic. Great scenery, but the film itself is too miserable and falls a little flat.
