Robert Wagner (with a silly haircut) plays the young Valiant in this spirited period adventure based on a famous comic strip, but James Mason easily steals the acting honours as the villainous Sir Brack. The movie makes its jousting scenes and the burning of a Viking stronghold colourful and vividly exciting. After Valiant jumps off a small hill next to the castle, mats can be seen falling down from the studio hills. Based on a comic strip by Hal Foster.
