Christopher Lee here departs from the traditional style of horror film with which he has been most associated - and indeed, his traditional role as vampire or other fiend - as he plays a Special Branch chief in this unsuccessful but occasionally unsettling mixture of mystery and the uncanny, with fantasy and even science-fiction overtones. The story, which concerns the strange deaths of various people who were all trustees of an orphanage, is adapted from an intriguing novel by John Blackburn.
