He's defeated by a door-bell, tricked by a telephone, routed by a radio, beset by a bath and vanquished by a vacuum cleaner. In short, Inspector Clouseau is back, as, for a third time, Peter Sellers assumes his best-known role. Again, the famous diamond known as the Pink Panther has been stolen and Clouseau immediately suspects jewel thief Sir Charles Litton, known as The Phantom (formerly David Niven, who was unavailable, so now Christopher Plummer). The film is awash with inventive comic touches and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. It was originally intended to be a 26-part miniseries produced by Blake Edwards for the then ITV channel, ATV.
