Although the sense of fun that so distinguished the first entry in this series of comedy chase films is less in evidence, director Dick Lowry wisely decided to return to the non-stop car-to-car destruction derby of the original.

Jackie Gleason and Mike Henry are still around as the sheriff and his son, Jerry Reed takes over from Burt Reynolds as The Bandit, while Burt himself puts in a brief guest appearance as 'The Real Bandit'.

Gleason remains as funny as ever at the centre of this patchwork of arbitrary mayhem.
