Arthur Hailey's novel Runway Zero 8, on which this average disaster film is based, had already been the basis for a TV drama Flight into Danger in 1956 and a cinema film, Zero Hour! , starring Dana Andrews. Director Bernard L Kowalski's TV film is a virtual carbon copy of Airport, with a washed-up helicopter pilot trying to fly a stricken plane with the help of a stewardess. But fluid camerawork and dramatic touches do raise the tension. Kowalski returned to the theme in 1977 with Flight to Holocaust, about a plane crashing into a skyscraper at Los Angeles airport.
