This later adventure of sophisticated sleuths Nick and Nora Charles suffers from the demands of wartime on the plot, and from the fact that Woody Van Dyke, who had directed previous films in the series, had just died. And the dialogue for Myrna Loy as Nora is flat champagne compared with previous scripts. But William Powell is in his usual smooth form as Nick, and a whole gallery of familiar character actors from the period enjoy themselves immensely as the various suspects in the case of the murdered painter.
