Not so much a sequel to the second film in the series, more a neat and ingenious re-working of Pierre Boulle's original premise. The intelligent script is by Paul Dehn, one-time film critic, who put theory into practice and won the 1951 screenplay Oscar for Seven Days to Noon. Here, the apes make off from their planet in Charlton Heston's original spacecraft to land in modern America. Bradford Dillman gives a superb performance as Dr Dixon, while Roddy McDowall and Kim Hunter are excellent as usual under the clever simian make-up. One of the better 'Apes' movies - and it moves well all the way.
