This bright and colourful version of Friml's famous stage musical was supposed to have made a star of Oreste (Kirkop), when he stepped into one of the many singing roles vacated by an overweight Mario Lanza. Although Oreste projected an attractive personality and warm tenor voice, the public didn't take to him as a cinema personality. And the film itself lacks sparkle, apart, that is, from Rita Moreno's flashing-eyed portrait of Huguette.
