Circuses have long provided attractive backdrops for films. But the one featured in this romantic TV movie is a third-rate, one-ring travelling show with torn tents and tatty costumes. Yet for Mary (Elizabeth Montgomery), it still retains that age-old pulling power that makes people want to give up the rat-race and join the world of the Big Top. She gives a sensitive performance as a woman with the chance of a last `fling'. Christopher Plummer is the target of her romantic yearnings, and bolstering up the cast is that accomplished actress Eileen Brennan, the domineering officer in the film and subsequent series Private Benjamin.
