Shirley Booth, that arch-portrayer of put-upon women (remember her in Come Back, Little Sheba? ), turns up acting trumps again as a middle aged wife who suddenly finds her husband is contemplating running off with a girl in her twenties. Director Daniel Mann does an admirable job of catching the sultry and oppressive atmosphere of a small Louisiana town; and the three Oscar-winners in the cast (Miss Booth, Anthony Quinn and Eileen Heckart) are given sterling competition by Shirley MacLaine (pert and likeable as Miss Booth's romantic daughter), Earl Holliman, Jody Lawrance and Warren Stevens.
