High-gloss romantic drama with some biting comedy lines, a string of fine performances and subtle, confident direction by George Cukor. He aimed at getting all the members of his cast to play to their strongest points.
In some ways a dry run for The Philadelphia Story (which also featured Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn and had Cukor directing), this has human qualities all its own, and a heartwarming ending which may leave you a touch misty-eyed.
