A well-observed domestic drama set in a small Kansas town as it prepares for Independence Day celebrations. Frederic Forrest is compelling as the man returning home from a spell in prison, wreaking emotional havoc on the three women in his life: wife Michael Learned, daughter Rosanna Arquette and mother-in-law Geraldine Page. That's some line-up for a TV movie, and it's depth of characterisation which makes this such an affecting little picture - a kind of Our Town in the Eighties.
