The film in which Mae West really twisted the censor by the tail, as well as consolidating her first big success in She Done Him Wrong. She was never allowed quite the same freedom of dialogue (written by herself) after this, but mean time, there are many aphorisms to treasure as Mae plays a carnival dancer who tames lions - and men - as a sideline. `I like sophisticated men to take me out', she tells young society swell Kent Taylor. I'm not really sophisticated', he tells her. Growls Mae: `You're not really out yet, either.' And that's really her in the lions' cage, to the dismay of the films' producers, who went purple with anxiety at the thought of their high-priced star in the big cats' company.
