A garish cross between the demon baby syndrome and the exorcism movies. It's directed by Peter Sasdy who once made that atmospheric horror film Hands of the Ripper for Hammer. This one, though, falls apart after a promising first murder scene in a windswept garden by night. Don't expect this sort of fright to be kept up; tuppence-coloured melodramatics and generous helpings of gore are all too soon the order of the day. Some prominent British stars get caught up in all this, including Joan Collins, Donald Pleasence, Eileen Atkins, Ralph Bates and Caroline Munro.
