This scary film was a runaway success when it first came out. Bruce Davison, whose subsequent career has not quite fired on all cylinders, plays the lonely young man of the title who makes friends with a pack of rats, one of whom proves particularly devious and intelligent, rather like Napoleon the pig in Animal Farm. The results of this alliance moved publicists to advise that `this is the one movie you should not see alone'. A sequel, Ben, followed.
