This shatteringly forceful film about mob rule (produced by noted film-maker Stanley Kramer) was banned by the British Board of Censors on its initial appearance in 1953 because its smouldering atmosphere was considered conducive to teenage violence.

In today's climate, when many British and American films have painted much more graphic pictures of teenage gang violence, The Wild One seems a less frightening, if no less intense, film.
