Begun by John Ford and completed by cameraman-turned-director Jack Cardiff, this atmospheric drama recounts the early struggles of the Irish playwright Sean O'Casey, here known as Johnny Cassidy. Rod Taylor is hardly ideally cast in the title role, but he has stout support from the distinguished ladies in the cast, among them Maggie Smith, Julie Christie, Flora Robson, Edith Evans and Sian Phillips.
